Sir Isaac Newton:

Isaac Newton was born on Christmas Day 1642 at Woolsthorpe, England. He is remembered as one of the greatests mathematician and scientist in the history of science. He was educated at Cambridge University, where his Professor resigned in order to make way for his brilliant student, then aged 27.

Newton's work was published in his book, Principia (1687), in which he laid down the foundations for the motion of bodies, the Law of Universal gravitation, and the motion of planets.

His second major contribution was his book "Opticks" (1704), where he describes his experiments on light.

In mathematics, he is credited with the discovery of the Binomial Theorem, and, independently of Leibnitz, the Calculus.

In later years, Newton abandoned his scientific work, and for a time, was Member of Parliament. He was appointed as Warden of The Mint, at a time when England was moving over to a new coinage, and was by all accounts an able and honest administrator. He died in Kensigton on March 20, 1727.
